What year was his Lincoln?

And did he always have the same one, or did it change as the series progressed?

I seem to remember 2 different Lincolons, but I haven't seen anything past about the middle of the 4th season in years. What I remember is a 1971 Lincoln during the first 2 seasons and then the re-designed 1973 Lincoln from Season 3 forward, though they may have updated it each year after 73, since the changes to the Lincoln Continental at that time were fairly minor.

I just remember the blue Lincoln with the opera windows in the back.

I guess I was 13 when Cannon began in 1971 because TV shows usually all begin their new seasons in October. I was born in June. Anyway, I was then, and still am a big fan of the Lincoln Continental cars. They were works of art. There's not much I couldn't answer about any Lincoln today.

Canon's Lincoln was the first year of the Mark IV series which began in 1972, but I'm sure they were available when production began on Canon. The Mark III was made from 1969 to 1971. I personally liked it's body better. They all had the big 460ci engine.

In 1977 was the last year(s) for the big Mark cars and they became Mark V. It only came with a 460ci in CA in 1977. Then in 1978 they tried downing it to a 400ci, only in CA, and only due to emission rules that were going on. You could get a 460ci in 1978 but had to be optioned. And the last Mark V was 1979, and that year they slapped the Mercury Marquis dashboard on it, no more thermometer type speedometer, etc. And, all's you could get was the underpowered 2bbl 400ci, which were notorious for the engines giving out at around 20k miles!

Everything after 79 was downsized and looked silly. Engines were like 302ci to 351ci. Mainly 302's in CA due to our STRICKT emission laws back then. Every year the government expected CA to get better and better with cleaning up the smog coming out of our vehicles, thus so many changes.

If you want to see what began the whole Mark story, Google or Yahoo a 1957 Lincoln Continental Mark I. I had the luck of my life in the 80's and got to drive one. As beautiful of artwork a vehicle could be, it was interesting to drive, but they don't corner like the 70's cars, and although they had power steering & power breaks, they weren't disc breaks so coming down a hill was like stopping a big truck.

The End
