The joke for which I will remember 'Cannon'...

... is the joke about him wanting to eat a sandwich many times throughout the episode, but each time he wants to take a bite, the phone rings. Frustration all over. In the second half of the episode, when Cannon wants to take a bite, he remembers his bad luck just in time and takes a good look at the phone first to make sure it does not ring. Reassured, he decides to finally take that bite. And exactly at that moment, the phone starts to ring...

Such a simple joke. But it was perfect timing, and perfectly executed. I still remember it after 35 years, here at the other side of the world (Amsterdam). So it must have had some quality.

Ralph Kramden had the same "code law" during the days of The Honeymooners. One never saw him actually eating anything, although he talked about the subject often. Examples included his telling Ed Norton how he just wanted to have a small taste of the pizza that Norton had in front of him, or in telling a former doughnut shop king how much he loved that doughnut king's doughnuts and ate them all the time. Yet one never saw Ralph's downing even one single morsel.

That's very interesting Moviegoer Dan ( revised skits are so cool for classic shows like these lol ) . It's been years since I have seen " The Honeymooners " series ( but sadly I haven't seen every episode ) . That would be another awesome show to put on the MeTV Channel too . Thanks Moviegoer Dan for sharing this with us .

That's a total riot hannesminkema ! Do you remember which Cannon episode title and season this skit was from ? I only just recently started watching this series again after many years and I don't remember every episode that was shown . Thanks hannesminkema for your subject post .

Sorry, no. I don't remember that - if I ever knew it. I was about 10 years old at the time it was broadcasted in The Netherlands (around 1974) and not in the business of remembering episode titles... :-)

The series is not out on DVD in The Netherlands, and it probably never will. I am hoping for some DVD release with English subtitles, although US tv series are usually easier to follow 'on the ear' than British tv.

Oh that's OK no problem then couzijn . I have been watching this show on the MeTV Channel recently anyway . Perhaps I may luck out and this channel may show this episode soon enough . Thanks couzijn for your reply .

Not a joke but a great line from Cannon, a client comes to him at a posh bar and he says let's have a drink before we discuss the case and she says I don't drink he says that's ok I do!
