If a Movie was to be Made in 2010,...

..I'd like it to capture as much of the spirit of the series as possible, and with some sort of physical resemblance to Murphy and Duel...Matthew McConaughey, like Ben Murphy, was met with the "You look like Paul Newman" stamp upon arriving in Hollywood...Not a better Kid Curry is available...Low key, aw gosh persona could be fulfilled by him...For Heyes, my first impulse is to say Johnny Depp, but he is in EVERYTHING...Yet, dark, fast talking, charming is easily within his grasp...

I'd prefer it if Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles played the characters of Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry. Padalecki and Ackles have been in the same TV show since 2005 and have played brothers who are very close. The actors have the same chemistry Pete Duel and Ben Murphy had.

Jared is dark haired like Pete Duel and wears his hair the same way.
Jensen is dirty blond like Ben Murphy.
Both are good looking like Pete Duel and Ben Murphy.

The characters Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are currently playing are extremely similar to those of Hannibal Heyes and Kid Curry.

* They have no home. They live on the road.
* They are partners.
* They are criminals on the run but they are pretty good bad men.
* Jared's (Hannibal) character Sam is the one with the brains.
* Jensen's (Kid) character Dean is the brawns of the two.
* Whenever Sam and Dean want the same thing, they do rock, paper, scissors to determine who will get it. Jensen's character (the Kid-like one) always loses. (Just like Kid always lost the coin toss to Hannibal.)
* The show Padalecki and Ackles are currently in is a drama series but there is a lot of comedy to their characters and the things they say and do.
* They handle weapons on a daily basis.
* They use aliases when in contact with other people.
* They wear layers.

In the last and third season of Alias Smith and Jones, Heyes and Curry were described as Kansas cousins in the narration.

* Padalecki and Ackles' characters Sam and Dean Winchester were born in Kansas.

I think Jared and Jensen would make a perfect Alias Smith and Jones pair. They have, in a way, played Smith and Jones for 5 years already.

Here are a few photos of them:

Iv'e never seen these guys before in my life (or heard of them), but I think you might have something there!

reply

Thank you. I think so too. :)

Kellybubble,

I had never watched an episode of Supernatural, but my daughter has the first five seasons on DVD, so I watched them this weekend...I watched the first few episodes of season one, and then an episode the other night about betting poker chips for years that could be won or lost...I think you are on to something...Although much of the character Dean has a lot of Heyes in him...Good call by you!

reply

joeymac_10: I agree. Dean has a lot of Heyes in him and I think Jensen Ackles could pull off the Heyes attitude better than Jared Padalecki could also.

I totally forgot to mention the poker thing. Those guys play a lot of poker and snooker (pool?), just like Heyes and Curry played a lot of poker and other games present in their era. Both character couples are from Lawrence, Kansas too. :)

I would love to see what Jared and Jensen could do with the characters of Heyes and Curry in an upcoming movie.

Oh, and joeymac_10!! Borrow your daughter's DVDs and watch the episode "Mystery Spot" sometime. This episode has both the drama and the typical Supernatural/AS&J comedy in it.

The Winchester brothers as Kid Curry and Hannibal Heyes? In the words of Ernest P. Worrell, "it could work!"

reply

What would be cool, is if Jared and Jensen (the Winchesters) became Heyes and Curry in an episode of Supernatural, which would explain the change in Heyes (from Duel to Davis) as part of their supernatural story line.

You know, just a 'one-off' (for fun) episode - they do those kinds of stories every now and then.

reply

And I thought the same thing. Jared (Sam) and Jensen (Dean) from Supernatural would be great in the film version of ASaJ. They already behave the way Ben and Pete played their characters on their program.
This is such a great show. Help! I'm addicted to a forty year old TV western series!

Hush, I know how you feel! I can't believe how much I love this show. Just wanna raise a virtual glass to the story of 'two pretty good bad men' alias Smith and Jones.

If they do decide to make a new film based on this show, lets hope they do it right and resist making a parody. If their intention is to mock this show in any way, lets hope they never make it. In the meantime.....

So who would you cast as Heyes played by Roger Davis?

reply

Personally, I don't see either Matthew McConaughey or Woody Harrelson for either role, but I can picture Johnny Depp as Heyes quite easily. The other names, I don't know.

My suggestion is probably rather unusual. I must have Star Trek:Enterprise on the brain or something, lol, cuz I just posted on the "Ben Murphy" thread on this board that his delivery and expressions remind me a lot of Scott Bakula, and now (having just watched another episode of ASAJ) I'm thinking, Pete Duel's delivery and expressions remind me a lot of Connor Trinneer.

I can see why they wouldn't be anyone's first pick, but having already shown great chemistry with each other on ST:ENT and having similiar acting styles to Murphy and Duel, I think Bakula and Trinneer would do an excellent job in the roles, exhibiting the same original spirit. The only drawback is that Bakula is too old to play Kid Curry at the same age he was in the series.

Lol, I'd love to see that casting just for the chance to see Trinneer be the boss over Bakula for a change!

Alex McArthur would be perfect for Pete Duel. Got very similar looks and played a great cowboy role in the TV western series Desperado.

If they were to make it into a film now, it would probably star Luke and Owen Wilson.

reply

I was just reading an article about Owen Wilson set to star in a re-make of the classic 1971 series.
Sorry but I expect it's gonna suck! EVERYTHING these days is so damned, ironic that remaking it will just zap the life from the entire premise.

reply

I actually didn't peek -I didn't even realize it was being remade!

reply

Nobody else will go along with this, probably - but I think the parts should go to two country singers -

Billy Currington as Heyes, and Dierks Bentley as Curry !

reply

I don't think they could do a successfully remake but the people the poster mentioned above would make a good alias smith and jones.curington as heyes bentlkey as curry/
