Watching this show....

I just bought this entire series from Sam's and watching it for the first time. I find myself dreading getting to the last episode with Pete. It will be depressing to loose him as he and Ben had a good thing going. They worked well together and the show is very enjoyable and good. Can't change any of that now.

I sympathise/empathise. I feel bad for Roger Davies, there was just no way he could possibly match up. I can't watch his episodes at all(except for that early one where he was playing another character, such a good episode!). Ben and Pete were perfect together, it couldn't be replicated or replaced.

I agree. The Roger/Ben combo was two actors working together to get the job done. But the Ben/Pete ensemble started to bond more tightly in the early episodes and I feel that there was a special relationship between the two men as well as two actors. I believed they cared a lot for one another. Now this is not to intimate there was romantic/sexual feelings there but more brotherly. They complimented one another and it showed. This has happened in other shows as well, Dukes of Hazzard to name one. This was lost when Pete was replaced.

You never watched Alias Smith & Jones when it first came on kaj? Was it because you were in Vietnam?

Yeah...I hated the show when Roger Davis took Pete's role. Pete & Ben Murphy did have a chemistry & were friends off screen that came across on screen as well.
The show didn't last with Roger...he was a very wooden actor.

They used to show reruns of AS&J but I haven't seen them in years....mainly it was the ones with Pete & Ben..I rarely saw the ones with Roger.
DVD huh....I think I'll go to my local Best Buy or Walmart (?) to check it out.

Hey Cjay! How you doing girl? I got mine at Sam's as it was cheaper than Best Buy. No it was after I was in Vietnam but I lived in an area that could not get that show when it was on. Roger did the best he could with a bad situation and I tried to watch his episodes but just couldn't. If I could get to Pete, I would really like to tell him, "Boy! You need to re-think this one!" Their humor was at an apex in the episodes just before Pete's death. I loved Ben's line, "Kid Curry and that other fella!" Then the look on Hayes' face was great.

Cold!!! We had SNOW on Christmas day......other than that it's been good. All the oil gone now & seafood good again?

Sam's? Cool...I'm a member but really haven't shopped that much in there. Know what I'm doing tomorrow.....LOL

Yeah...Pete had some demons that he couldn't shake. He had a girlfriend with him at the time of his suicide...she was there with him but couldn't help help that night. So sad to lose someone that talented...and that's what he was depressed about ..he didn't think he was..

reply

Seafood is expensive but everything else is also. He was talented but depression is a strange companion. Depression and alcohol are both demons that can't be defeated. The show's success should have been a clue that he was talented.

Cjay, check Amazon as they sometimes have used sets for a lot less but in good shape. I have gotten some good deals that way. Uncommon Valor was one of them.
