The pharmacy(?) scene

No matter how many times I watch the scene with the awkward young man who asks for the manager, I don't get it. Can anyone explain what is happening there? Is the lady partially naked? She certainly seems clothed from what we can see.

reply

I don't either. The version of the film that can be currently be seen on fancast.com is different, (and makes more sense in terms of continuity) than the VHS, and seems longer. I remember that scene being a little more detailed in the online version, but it's still a mystery.

I know for the VHS, they snipped out at least five minutes from the original theatrical release, based on the differing running times.

I saw the original, and then years ago I saw the VCR version. The VCR version was abbreviated, cut, censored.

I assumed he was too embarrassed to ask the clerk for condoms, which were behind-the-counter items in those days. Doesn't explain why, after he whispers in her ear, she asks him to come back when the manager is there though. Unfortunately, it appears the fancast version is no longer available. Just my luck.

reply

Yes, clearly he's asking for condoms, but the clerk's response makes no sense in light of his questions. It feels like a sitcom sketch, and it's the one segment of the film that just rang false with me.

reply

Yep, obviously it was condoms he was asking for.
