Why no Blu-ray?

After seeing Zulu fly off the shelves in the superior Blu-ray format, I am left wondering why buying a DVD, an emaciated version of some 128 minutes runtime of the classic film Waterloo, which originally ran for way over 3 hours, is our only option (well...that or the long out of print VHS version...spit!)

Does anyone know if a Blu-ray release is planned, or if we're ever likely to get one?

Thanks.

I contacted Olive Films -- an independent U.S. company that has licensed and released a number of Paramount films in the past 2 years -- about doing a Blu-ray and/or anamorphic DVD edition. Maybe, just maybe...

An over 3 hour version is myth. It doesn't exist.

As with many other films from the period, there was a 3-hour road show version complete with lengthy intermission which circulated for a very brief period, but I believe no prints are left in existence of it.

Hello,

It's said that soviet version was more longer with a complete different musical score. But of course it's rather difficult to find this russain version...

We're less than three months from the 200th anniversary of the battle (one of the most famous in human history) and there has been no announcement from anyone about a Blu-ray (or even widescreen DVD) release in North America.

Zero. Zilch. Nada.

All I can say is... Merde!

Ah, le mot Cambronne! Magnifique!

Yes, a great shame there's no forthcoming Blu-ray version, still, as they say, c'est la vie :)

Battle scenes would look fantastic in HD if someone would make the effort.

A 720p 'Scope version is available from itunes. Apple probably has exclusive rights - hence no BluRay yet.
It's the complete 134min version but unfortunately not with the 70mm's 6 channel mag audio. :(

You'll be happy to know that it's on blu-ray in Australia and Germany.
