I've emailed Criterion multiple times, BEGGING for a Criterion release of this strange and beautiful film. FINALLY! I am very happy about this release. The Second Run edition in the UK looks good, better than the U.S. Facets edition, but finally it will get the Criterion treatment, and on blu-ray as well as DVD. Joy.

And oh what a treatment they gave it! It's one of the "crown jewels" of my movie collection, without a doubt.

Have you picked up a copy of the Blu-ray yet? I just bought it yesterday, and the picture quality is really nice. This release isn't stacked with as many bonus features as some criterion releases but, it includes three of the directors short films, interviews with a couple of the actors (the woman who played Valerie, and the man who played the creepy priest), an alternate soundtrack, as well as an interview with a film scholar discussing the film and it's unique qualities. If you don't already have a copy, you can pick it up right now for 19.99 + tax at Barnes & Noble, as part of their 50% off Criterion Collection sale.

I purchased the Criterion DVD for only fifteen bucks at a half-price sale at a local Barnes & Noble in Central New Jersey.
