The Pepsi Cooler

In one of the biographies of Joan Crawford they said the always present Pepsi Cooler full of vodka was in plain sight all through Trog's filming.

reply

I've heard that about Joan's vodka too -- Smirnoff Silver Label, to be exact.

Wasn't Al Steele long dead by 1970?

reply

She remained as an executive and spokesman after her husband's death in 1959 (in 1972 when the company's executives saw no further use for her, they pushed her out

reply

That is just hilarious if it's true....

It is true. After Joan's marriage to Al, she was given a 'token' seat on the Pepsi board of director's. Al had borrowed off of his future salary to pay for their lavish Manhattan townhouse. After his sudden fatal heart attack, joan found herself heavily in debt. She began to use her "token" seat as a full time job.Plugging Pepsi on talk shows and interviews. She was known to castigate anyone who DARED bring anything else onto a set.

Eventually, she became a thorn in the side of Pepsi and they did want to get rid of her. Hence, there is a famous scene in MOMMIE DEAREST where Faye Dunaway barks at the conference table of old men. "Don't *beep* with me fellas. This isn't my first time at the rodeo."

Have you noticed that, during the movie, as Trog first emerges from the cave, and all the citizens are running away, there's a PEPSI COOLER right there in plain sight on the hill? I ran it back twice, and yep, it's there!

In the early 60s, Bette Davis and others in the industry who had disdain and ridicule for Joan nicknamed her the "widow Steele" , referring to her Pepsi inheritance.

Bette Davis had a Coke machine installed on the set of Baby Jane just to spite Joan. when are they going to make a movie out of the book, "the divine feud"??
