The Butcher ( ***SPOILER WARNING!!! *** )

***SPOILER WARNING!!! ***
***SPOILER WARNING!!! ***

Not much of a spoiler really but just to be safe. The scene where Trog hangs the butcher on the meat hook in his butcher's shop is one of my fondest Saturday afternoon TV Monster Movie Matinee memories. I still remember us kids talking about it the Monday after they showed this, agreeing that it was about the coolest thing ever since the mechanical flame thrower tank models from CALTIKI and the Great Golem from IT! walking away from being nuked & into the sea.

It makes me sad to see people trashing TROG just because it was Joan Crawford's last movie -- as if she planned it that way or something. That one scene of the butcher being strung up like a porky ham stuck with some of my friends as well through the years, and sometimes we joke about it to this day. And how cool it was to get to see something like that behind our parents' backs when we were like 9 or 10. I think one of the shames of today's society is that kids don't have movies like TROG or KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS to sneak in and be utterly mortified by. The dumber they turned out to be the better. I think TROG is a masterpiece of some sort, and the scene with the butcher its proudest moment.

I may be wrong but I don't think people are trashing TROG because it's Joan's last movie. Most feel bad for her that this was her final film after decades of great work. I can see finding the movie kind of cool as a kid. But, this is a BAD movie. I enjoy it for its badness.

Can you imagine what Joan's reaction would've been if Michael Curtiz walked up to her in 1944 and said, "Joanie, this is the scene where the butcher gets hung on a meat hook."
