DVD

I don't think this is Luis Bunuel's best film, but it's still a fine movie. Anybody else want this on DVD besides me?

reply

I do. This is my personal favorite Bunuel film, just because it seems so personal. Its also just a masterful example of professional filmmaking; he is completely in control of his craft, and the technique never interferes.

Criterionco.com had no mention of Tristana being released on DVD. Where did you get this information?

The Friends of Eddie Coyle needs to be released on DVD!

reply

it's already avaiable on DVD and it has been for a long time. I just ordered it today on region 2.

reply

Yeh I bought it on BFI classics region 2. I love this film, and it one of my favourite Bunuel films. I think the characterisation of Tristana by Deneuve is exceptional. Severine in Belle de Jour is like Tristana.

I have seen 8 films directed by Bunuel and have only felt that Belle du Jour and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeiosie are truly excellent films. The story of Tristana is woefully disjointed. It is not a good film.
