Is a shame you did not totally enjoy this film. Bunuel was not overly concerned with plot details, so he would quite frequently just jump years, and develope the story like that.
I think the themes in this film are what makes it a classic, and the acting particularly from Deneuve and Rey is amazing. Please give it another go, is truly very good. Hope you do.

blog not found.

as commenter above described your blog, i too find it a bit boring - the story,
however since i know bunuel's trademarks, it was fun to search for them - el bruto theme, feces obsession (who drinks cow dung anyway?), archibaldo leg off theme, belfry, animals, shocking and unexpected scene (severed head)... - and well his hometown, that was sweet to see, where all his ideas were hatched.

Oh okay, so now people need to do research on the director and his quirks before they can watch or enjoy a movie? I don't buy it but that's to be expected. I've noticed a lot of the people who are lauded as 'geniuses' tend not to be my favorites. Maybe it's because I'm sane and don't do drugs.

Seriously, I suspect that 'genius' label causes most people to claim they understand and enjoy the genius' work when they really have no idea what the hell is going on. They just don't want to seem unintelligent and unable to appreciate the work of someone who's supposedly so great.

i did research on bunuel because i liked clips from his films, and after watching simon of the desert - ijust know this is it. there was unexplained connection.
it occured to me that i liked horror movies not because of horror genre itself because i dislike the gore - but i like the element of surprise and twisted unexpected plots. bunuels films are just like that.

as far as i know, bunuel wouldn't mind that anyone labels him or anyone else "genius", he wouldn't mind if you or me like or don't like his movie.

but the fact is that he started to film from the very start of cinema, he is grandfather of the cinema and he deserves the minimum of respect. his movies are strange and different, they were such in the time when there were no experimental or underground movies. he was a pioneer - he deserves the respect because of that. now, if you don't like it, i think you're just not ready yet to receive it. maybe you will never be. i knew of bunuel for long time now, i also didn't mind about him much. i remember 10 years ago i stumbled across one of his film and there was a dialoge about a woman who can digest food and it comes back feces to her mouth. it was digusting and i didn't watch it further. i didn't know that he had obsession about feces and he was just staying consistent to his caprices. in fact this doesn't exist anyway, he invented it, like many other things and show it as a reality for someone dumb/uneducatedin this field like me who will believe it because it is shown on a screen.

maybe it's related, but last month i found about the cure for my thoughts that i've searched for 20 years. i found out that i have pure ocd. and i started to think better. and i enjoy his movies now. just because i got rid of the way i was thinking, filled with fear and anxiety.

the question is -- what is holding you back to enjoy clever movies? will you ever wake up or stay in coma like i did last 20 years?

Good for you! I'm glad you're recovered but don't get confused and think others suffer from similar issues. I certainly do not.

If the reason I don't like Bunuel's work is because I'm in a coma; I hope I never wake up. I love my life and would not change a thing for the purpose of understanding or enjoying the kind of stuff he does. No thank you!

yadda yadda yada..
well anyhow, one month and half has past, - i watched his whole repertoire from the past and except his last two movies, i see now bigger picture.
there are some of his movies that are really boring and without point - but this one has quality.

sorry you can't see that right now, maybe in the future..you will.
