How does someone even come up with a scene like that?! By the way, who thinks she should have given him the damn shoes? I do.

p.s. I wonder what kind of, um, lamp it would have made...

Welfare workers actually pull crap like that. Paul Morrissey is saying the drug culture was sick, but the system wasn't much better.

Yes, it's really hard to get SSI or federal disability because they make you jump through all of their hoops.

The scene is absolutely inspired and it feels to me that it actually achieves an overall wholeness of "stranger than fiction", while being fictionalized anecdotal material the entire time. It is so strange and wacky that it becomes bliss, and I welcomed the many hearty, many real laughs the scene got out of me.

I think the fact that Holly refused to give the welfare worker her favorite pair of shoes MADE the scene. The girl may not have all her teeth, but she's got her DIGNITY! The whole scene was genius in how it was unpredictable and unpredictably real.
