Why is this 'G' rated and not PG?

Serious problems with rating system.
Noticed recently that "I Love Lucy" was also PG.
Meanwhile "Wanted Dead or Alive" starring Steve McQueen with all of the shooting was "G".

HUH???

Actually, PG wasn't created until 1972.

The "PG" level rating did exist before 1972 - it just had different names - first "M" and then "GP" before being permanently renamed "PG". As far as this film getting a G rating, it seems that in the very early years of the rating system, the MPAA would give a G to any film that they would have given an MPAA seal to before the rating system - which is why films like "Planet of the Apes", "True Grit", "The Green Berets", and "Tora Tora Tora" got the "G" rating - there is nothing in these films that would have prevented them from getting the MPAA seal before 1968 - today, they would easily get a PG for violence.

Because modern America has been pussified.

I remember before there was any rating system. Then there was "G", "M", and "X". At that time, California drivers licences were just photo print paper with the written information typed on. It was easy to carefully erase the last numeral in my year of birth and retype it to make myself eighteen so I could get into any movie I wanted to see. As a result of seeing movies above my true rating level, I was not psychologically damaged.

Cause they wanted to scare little kids with war scenes.

"Wanted Dead Or Alive" came out in 1958.
