Better than Ben Affleck's Pearl Harbor

This was a lot better movie than Pearl Harbor (2001). Even the dog fight scenes seemed so real. Plus there was no cheesy love triangle.

That's because even though the Japanese Zeroes were actually American trainers converted to look like zeroes... They were real planes which were really flying and thus had to obey all the rules of physics and aerodynamics.

Unlike the CGI recreation which while LOOKING real... behaved according to the whims of an idiot director rather than reality.

That's the problem with modern CGI.
It's not that they don't look real, They do.
It's that they don't behave real. Rather, they behave how a director wants them too in complete disregard to what they can actually do.
Doubly bad in the case of men like Michael Bay who could care less about accuracy or realism and would rather just OHH and AHHH the brain dead idiots that flock to his films.

Agreed. This movie is much better.

 Entropy ain't what it used to be.

Well in fairness, better than PH2001 is not setting the bar all that high.

Ha!

This is a Great movie depicting a fairly realistic scenario. America caught looking while all went well for the Japanese. Modern adaptation of war movies have little to do with war. The Affleck movie was a joke .

reply

of course it was... it was WELL WRITTEN.

audiences want good stories told by great characters regardless of effects.

You do.
I do.
Many others do too.

But the large majority don't.
The brain dead moron majority just wants flashy effects and eye-candy to OHHH and AHHH at.

Michael Bay, Roland Emmerich and others play to the moron brigade with their ignorant but high in SFX films, and the films are blockbusters that make money for them regardless of how bad the film truly is.

So long as bad films with flashy effects make money, asses like Bay are going to continue to crank them out.

Seriously? You think the generation that's committing unintentional suicide by walking off cliffs and into traffic playing Pokemon Go... cares about plot or character development?
