missing scene?

This movie has always been a closet favorite of mine. I just rented it on Netflix for the first time in years and again noted to myself that the only women in the movie were a few native girls on the island with the US base that Cliff Robertson's character is shipped FROM at the beginning of the film.

HOWEVER..........

As I let the DVD play out and past the very short few credits at the end, the closing picture was a screen shot of Tosh (Michael Caine's character) and a native woman together! This is so strange, since early in the film the British Colonel notes that there are no longer any natives on THAT island.

Anyone else catch this? Makes me wonder where that scene could possibly have come from.

I know the picture your talking about, I figured it to be a promotional type of thing ie lobby cards etc. What I want to know, is the scene were Lawson diverts the Japanese down the wrong path by yelling orders at them in Japanese, when he comes out of the bushes, he looks down the path the Japanese followed and says something. The versions I've always seen, never have the dialogue, you can see his mouth move but no words are spoken . Does anyone know what he says?

it is re used footage from when he turns and shouts in japanese. The makers must have thought it would look good for lawson to look over his shoulder but didnt have chance to film it, therefore used what they had and re used lawsons motion. Check it out.

That was actually one in a series of promotional shots done for a men's magazine.

I can't believe you actually turned that up. Wow! I never would have guessed. My post was over 2 years old!

I'm going to take a shot here and necropost this thread that I started half-a-decade ago. On a hunch, I searched for the origin of the photo above and found these. I'll assume that this thread on an old WWII movie won't attract any minors:

Interesting choice for promotional photos!
