Wretched movie

It's no use trying to listen to some of the best actors in England if you can't hear what they're saying. Abominable sound and no subtitles to help!!

My sentiments exactly! At first I thought something had gone wrong with my hearing aids.

If you want to see an excellently produced and filmed (b&w) version or a Chekhov play, check out Uncle Vanya (1957), starring Franchot Tone. It is available in an very-well restored DVD version from VCI Entertainment for a reasonable price. The DVD includes as a bonus feature a 1936 Holywood film version of Gogol's The Rebel Son (later remade as Tarus Bulba). I believe I can safely say that I would like Uncle Vanya beter than Three Sisters, even if the later had had a decent sound track.

I have the Kino DVD with the wretched sound. Has anyone seen the Warner Archive DVD version and thus can relate whether it has better sound or subtitles at least?
