Sorry spin-off of a great movie..

I saw In the Heat of the Night on cable one day, and loved it. A couple of weeks later I saw They call me Mr. Tibbs. This movie was poorly directed, and had a worthless plot....Shame on everybody involved.

Couldn't agree more, I've only watched 20 mins of it and I can see it won't hold up to 'In The Heat Of The Night' Also how is this a sequel? the only thing connecting them is Vigil Tibbs played by Sidney Poitier, but he's totally different than his ITHOTN character!

To be honest I didn't know it was a spin-off from In The Heat Of The Night (I didn't remember what Poitier's character was called in that one). If that's the case then yes, this becomes an even more pathetic movie, because ITHOTN is pretty much a classic.

As a fan of both Poitier and Landau I was really disappointed.
It should have been so much better!
