Hated the character right off for that. Little boys aren't allowed to watch a little TV on their day off from school? Fathers like that end up being ignored and avoided by their kids. And that just leads to further alienation. Only watch another 20 minutes of this POS. I got the idea... abuse of audience goodwill toward a much more substantial film.

I was a bit shocked by his treatment of the boy also. I imagine Mr. Tibbs had a strict and proper upbringing to reach his status, and doesn't want his boy to be typical.
