I really like Warren Oates and im trying to see lots of his Films {im from england so would have to buy it from the US} but i was wondering, is he in this very much? i know he is not one of the 2 Stars, i just wanted to know how much?
shareHe´s in it quite a lot. I had´nt seen or known of this movie before, just saw it today, here down Argentine way. Warren is the actor seen the most apart from the first 2 or 3 others (just as the order they are listed in). In fact he may get more screen time than Henry Fonda.
It´s a pretty funny and "light" western. However the only disturbing part is the soundtrack. It´s actually quite good, but has nothing to do with the "western" genre. Typical of the late 60´s it mostly sounds "Burt-Bacharach-ish", while at other moments sounding like some spy-thriller ("It Takes a Thief" came to mind).
I´d like to hear the music again, but this movie would likely have been better known if it had a different score.

I love this movie and the music plays an important part......it throws you off-key with it's light-hearted rythmn.

Well said. Music could have ruined it totally if the movie was not thattttt good. It's almost a masterpiece. No big plot holes and comedy theme gives it more values.
If you're near London you can check it yourself, it's showing as part of a Mank retrospective at the NFT but in case you miss it Oates does have a fairly substantial role as one of Kirk Douglas' fellow cons who is also part of the breakout.
