Bad job by a good director

I'll preface this by saying I'm not a Liza Minelli fan.
Having said that,Otto preminger has made many good films over the years, except for this one.
The premise that a sexual psychopath would first "date",then brutally assault a victim is absurd to begin with, and a major stretch in credulity. Why wouldn't he kill her?
After the scene in the junkyard I watched for about 10 minutes more and gave up.
Maybe Preminger owed someone a favour or had an obligation to the studio, but this is not one of his better films.

I don't know that you're qualified to give your opinion of this film if you hit the rewind button so early.

reply

It was a beautiful film about misfits who become friends. If that's your idea of schmaltzy or unrealistic, so be it. But Preminger was very satisfied with it and European audiences loved it.

You hit the wrong ' reply ' button. The o.p. will never know that you don't agree with him if you don't click on [his] reply button. As you can see, I didn't feel that he was even qualified to give an opinion, because he only watched a few minutes of it.

Did you know that this movie was based on an original novel, dumbfrack? And that this incident happened at the beginning of it, or at least was mentioned by the writer in the movie as the reason why Junie was disfigured?

What qualifies you to say what a sexual psychopath would do? Every victim of a "date rape" assault had to be lured somehow. Even Charles Manson was somehow charismatic enough to attract a bevy of followers to do his bidding.

I would say that you gave up too early on this movie. It's more about the developing relationship between the main characters. You turned it off before this actually "developed".
