What a flawed movie / Could have been so much better

Among other things-- What was the point of them all going on vacation in the movie ? It was so distracting!! The script needed to be tightened !
Also - the guy who poured the acid on Junie's face seemed psychotic from the first time you see his face. Why would she chose to be alone with him ?
