existential allegories

I am a long time lover of this film and others a bit like it. For me, both on the plain surface of it and in a kind of allegory, it is a study ofvthe existential reality of being. Viewed like this it is really not like 1984 at all. Perhaps more like the Larson cartoon where the cow looks up and says to the herd,
"This is grass. We've been eating grass!"
In this way the ending is also perfect to me.
Does anyone else like these ideas in movies and what are some others you liked?
