Strawberry Statement on ON-DEMAND Uncut!!

I was one of many who was disapointed at the edited version of this film that aired on TCM last Jan.14th on "TCM UNDERGROUND". At first many people were angry that TCM would air an edited movie. Eventually, most agreed that it may have been the only copy available, and TCM may not have known that it had been edited. It is not available on DVD, only on VHS and probably will remain that way because of the difficulty, or impossibilty to obtain the rights to the soundtrack from the bands record company's.

Anyway, I was thrilled to find this film and many other hard to find movies on my cable companys (COMCAST) Movies ON-DEMAND FREE, under a new category titled "Preferred Collection" I checked to see if it had been edited and it had not! Meanwhile I recorded some other movies I had been looking for such as Klute
(1971), The Hunger (1983) and The City of Lost Children (1995); which to my ssurprise was in letterbox and French. When I went to record Strawberry SStatement to DVD-R I was surpised to find it "Content Protected"!! I was looking forward to having the uncut version on DVD-R (even in pan & scan)!
After overcoming my dissapointment I decided to record it on to a VHS tape.
The fact that this film was content protected when none of the others I tried so far totally reinforces the strict copyright protection laws on this movie,
most likely due to the soundtrack in the film.

But, for those who would like a VHS recording of this movie without editing; it is pan & scanned of course, see if it is available on your cables On-Demand section. If you have Comcast Cable be sure and check out the new Free category
"Preferred Collection" it is loaded with rarely shown films and most are available until 11-30-2011. Some films available are Lisztomania (1975) Ken Russell, O Lucky Man! (1973) Lindsay Anderson, THX-1138 (1971) George Lucas,
Downfall (Der Undertang)(2005) and ton's more from the 30's through 2010's.
O Lucky Man!

I'm hoping that TCM may get the uncut version of strawberry statement, so be on the lookout for the next showing, you never know! <fingers crossed>
