FLORENCE HENDERSON

This was not a very good movie at the time it was released in 1970. Even though it was presented in Cinerama 70 and Super Panavision the scenary of Norway never looked better, but they were counting on this film to be the next
"Sound Of Music",which was a way better film than this one. But Florence Henderson's singing and dancing talents were excellent, but it was a whole other level of her as an actress than her creditabilty as the wholesome "mom" on TV's "The Brady Bunch". Who cares if she was labeled as the poor man's
Julie Andrews? But her strong talents couldn't save this picture which was a huge boxoffice flop and became one of the worst movie of that year.

Only saving grace was some of outside photography shown in brilliant Technicolor and Deluxe prints, and that was the best part of the film.

It's amazing that nowadays,Florence Henderson doesn't talk about this film much, since most of her best work went straight into television for the five seasons of "The Brady Bunch" and afterwards the "Bradymania" that continues to this day.

This opened as a reserved seat attraction and played to empty houses.

I remember all the hype over it when it was released.

The Hollywood premiere was shown on local TV, either on Channel 11 or 13 (KTTV or KCOP at the time).

It was definitely intended to compete with the over-produced musicals of the time, not just the highly-successful "Sound of Music" but also the semi-successful "Oliver!" and the (also) flop "Hello Dolly!" (which IS a good movie but not of the caliber of "Sound of Music").

The clip shown of Florence during the premiere was of her singing to a group of children, which of course screamed "Von Trapp Family and Governess."

I never got to see this film and would like to today - although I'm sure after doing so I'd come right back here and post what was wrong with film - LOL!

I remember when it was nominated for a Golden Turkey Award.
