Iron Maiden song

Did this movie inspire the Iron Maiden song "Run to the Hills"?

reply

The song is inspired by the wild west and that part of american history, but it is not directly linked to this movie.

reply

The lyrics refer to "Soldier Blue", that why I was wondering.

Soldier Blue in the barren waste, hunting and killing the game, raping the women and wasting the men the only good Indians are tame. I always thought Bruce and Steve were influenced by this movie.

Despite mentioning soldier blue the Maiden track actually concerns the Cree tribe. Hence the lines 'But many came. Too much for Cree. Oh will we ever be set free' right near the beginning of the song. Whilst Bruce Dickinson may have taken some inspiration from the film it's clear from his words he has a wider knowledge of the so called Indian Wars of the 18th & 19th centuries. For anyone interested just go to Wikipedia and type in Indian wars, or read Dee Brown's book 'Bury my heart at Wounded Knee' which an account of the American Frontier of 1860-90 from a perspective looking Eastward as the US army and settlers slowly deceive the indigenous tribes out of their land.

I dig very few 'Heavy Metal' 'type' Bands,...but I always loved these guy's (Iron Maiden) and finally got to see them in Fresno Calif. at Selland Arena in 1984. Twisted Sister opened the show,....but it was Iron maiden's 'show' and with a good hit of Acid and the Egyptian Pyramid set's they had, and the song's 'Run to the Hill's' 'Flight of Icarus' 'Trooper' 'Number of the Beast' et. al. they tore the roof off of Selland Arena. I saw this movie at the drive-in;...in 1970 right after I turned 16 and got my license. I took Debbie Macedo and paid very little attention to the movie as we had our lips locked on each other. Ha! Oh the good ol' day's. I do remember watching the massacre scene and Candace Bergen (what a hottie) but Debbie and the Budweiser kept my 68 Mustang Rockin'. In fact after the movie was over and everyone else had 'split',...the Drive-In attendant had to come up to my car (steamed up windows) and knock on the window to get my attention and tell me I had to leave. It was the only time I had a pair of panty-hose stuck on my head and my tongue in a Portegeuse Oyster! Ha!

DUDE! I've never read a crazier IMDb message board entry. You barely discuss or reflect on the movie at hand. AWESOME!

reply

Score! But that has little to deal with topic at hand!

I don't think it's directly related to any movies, but it is somewhat inspired by Westerns.

Now, tell us what really happened.

Whilst books are obviously better, Wikipedia is actually mostly reliable. Most of the actual 'vandalism' is obviously inaccurate.
