Could someone explain to me

What's the deal with this movie? Most of it looks awful, the camera shakes like it can't find the shot, the sets are well furnished but photographed like it's a stage play. I know the producers had their way with this movie, but the problems seem to begin before the editing stage. Samuel Fuller's films before that were better made. At what point exactly did he lose control over the production?
