I wrote to Richard "Tiny Tim" Beaumont!

Last year, I decided to contact Mr. Beaumont since after watching this film for so many years, I had several questions about it. He was gracious enough to reply!

I feel privileged to have been cast as Tiny Tim as it seems to have struck a chord with lots of people around the world (what’s left of it!) at Christmas. I often wonder what would have happened had ‘Scrooge’ been released before ‘Oliver’ as they were both great films but ‘Scrooge’ has always been seen as an imitation. Something I don’t think would have happened had ‘Oliver’ been released first. 'Scrooge' was great fun to work on and I was so lucky to be with such a prestigious cast. They were all fantastic with me and I distinctly remember having dinner with Dame Edith Evans just before the premiere.

We were meant to go to America to be on the Ed Sullivan Show and take part in Macy's Christmas parade but alas the trip was cancelled. As far as memories go they are random: running lines with Albert Finney, Karen Scargill and I developed a mischievous streak in each other and would regularly have ‘food fights’ between our scenes. This would involve us creeping up on each other and thrusting a cream cake, or whatever, into each other's faces. They were such a good bunch of actors who were passionate about the film it was a privilege to work with them. David Collings was wonderful to work with because, as a child actor you can sometimes feel out of your depth but David always included me in the ‘between takes’ moments.

The crew and cast were absolutely dedicated to their tasks in making ‘Scrooge’ a classic film and I feel privileged to be a part (all be it small) of ‘Scrooge's’ legacy.

How cool is that?! :)

WOW! I feel like you have just given us ''Scrooge'' fans, the nicest Christmas gift we could possibly hope for. Nothing beats a first hand report on the making of this classic, especially when it comes from one of the cast. To quote lyricist Leslie Bricusse: ''Thank You Very Very Very Much!''.

This is completely amazing.

Thank you for sharing this reply.

Great stuff! Thanks for sharing

Thank you for sharing Mr. Beaumont's reply to your message. It was especially interesting to read what he said about many people considering this an imitation of Oliver, since that movie came out slightly earlier.

The IMDb says that he's a drama teacher now. Is that correct?

By the way, this is our favorite version of A Christmas Carol. We watch it every Christmas--and my wife cries every time "Tiny Tim" sings "On This Beautiful Winter's Morning"!

Yes, nice to have an insiders view on this. I don't know if any of you are in the UK but this year, for the first time, we have had one of those endless Christmas Movie programmes that actually picks out Scrooge as worthy of note. As well as the usual clips from the film, there were interviews with David Collings (now a rather portly pensioner) and Tiny Tim. Both were able to give insights into the making of the film and it was great to see SOME recognition after all this time.

Wow! Were those interviews recorded? Would love to see them on YouTube.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing that!

Such a shame there is not a Like button or star ratings for posts here but then I guess I'd never be done!

Very nice. I don't know I missed seeing this before now.

I guess he just died this past year. Boo.
