Were the Rankin/Bass Christmas Shows Familiar/Beloved Outside of N. America?

Were they dubbed into other languages? Somehow I can’t see them being embraced in Europe because the stories conflict with local traditions about Santa’s origin and modus operandi. Heck, I could even see how Germans and Austrians would take offense at the apparent ethnicity of the Meisterburgher character. Then again, apparently Hogan’s Heroes was a big hit in Germany. So who knows.
