Dissapointed at ABC

I saw this cartoon last night on ABC, and I noticed that they had done a hatchet job on the songs. Jessica's beautiful song "My World Is Beginning Today" was completely removed, and "Gifts Beneath A Christmas Tree" was trimmed in half. I started watching during "One Foot In Front Of The Other". It was uncut, but I believe they trimmed down the other previous songs, such as "It's A Difficult Responsibility" & "If You Sit On My Lap Today". It's better nowadays to watch these Christmas specials uncut on home video.

Unfortunately for many of the viewers (I think the boys for the most part) the most cringeworthy song in the special was indeed "My World Is Beginning Today".

That may be also another reason why it was one of the casualties.

Do you think he wants some cheese?

reply

No!!!!!!!! Anything Jessica rocks! To paraphrase another poster here, that was quite a rack they put on that puppet.

reply

She did have a huge rack; unfortunately, the rest of her filled out by the end. What a cow!

"My World is Beginning Today" is one of the all-time cheeziest Christmas special moments, though.

reply

Just saw it on ABC Family. No entire songs were cut, but a few scenes were missing and most of the songs had at least one or two lines cut.

Many UFO/ghost skeptics are actually afraid it's all true and don't want it to be.

You must have been distracted, Tugstein. I was watching with my daughter and we both spotted missing lines from "First Toymaker To The King", then she noticed some in "One Foot In Front....". I commented that I wouldn't mind terribly if they cut Jessica's song altogether, but my kid called my attention to it as it ran. (I was typing) I don't know it well enough to know if lines were cut from it, but all the other songs suffered that. Upon reflection, I'm glad they didn't cut it out. I can remember years ago my daughter was VERY into this special the first time she saw it(much to her old man's delight). Anyway, when "My World Is Beginning Today" played, she asked me what the song meant. I asked what she thought. I'll never forget what she said. "She's seeing things different now because she's mad the people of Sombertown, isn't she? Like they sort of turned on her? Oh, and she's in love with Kris, too, right?" Smart just like her father.

Yeah it gets cut. I taped mine off of Treehouse channel in canada which has no commericals so i guess it can play the uncut one. It has jessica's song and a bunch of little add ons for all the songs plus this one song at the wedding its cool. Maybe buy it on DVD if u want it uncut!!!

reply

I don't mind some of the cuts as much as the fact that they removed the line about Rudolph near the end..."No...that's another story". My wife and I, both and our mid-30's, watched the show together. As soon as that went by, we both looked at each other like...WTF? We'll be buying the DVD's for next year.

reply

The Rudolph line was always my favorite part! I thought it was missing, i'm glad to know it wasn't just my imagination!

"Has anyone seen Trey?"
"Forget about Trey! Wheres my freakin chair?!"

reply

I watched tonight and that line was there. But the whole "If you sit on my lap" song was gone. I think the whole psychedlic Jessica song was gone but I might have been in the powder room at the time

reply

Jessica's psychedelic song was definitely gone - they didn't even play a snippet, like they have in other edited versions. I didn't realize they cut on the sit on my lap song.

The Rudolph line was there, though. Too bad they didn't use the same Rudolph from the other special, along with the right noise for his nose.

The psychedelic song comes right before she looks into the jail cell where Winter Warlock is being held. That's where he gives her the magic beans for the reindeer.

My little brother and I loved the "bwak" noise they used in SCICTT for Rudolph's cameo appearance. Cracked us up every year.

I am so glad I own this and Rudolph on DVD. Lifetime Network was hacking up "White Christmas" as well. Dont they realize us older (Im in my 40s) know this stuff by heart???

nice socks, man.....

reply

While personally I don't care for that song, and neither do any of my kids for that matter, I still hate it when anything gets cut from the original broadcast. That's why I pretty much have every Christmas movie/cartoon on DVD. I still fast forward through that song but I like to know it's there, just on principle, lol.

reply

Yeah, on the Family Channel they cut the Rudolph gag, plus the end where the Narrator is showing the Burgermeister's desecendants, who still hate Christmas, and him trying to explain Christmas, showing clips from earlier in the special. They also cut down the ending song as well. Better just to buy the damn thing.

Get the DVD, its uncut

reply

I absolutely LOVE that song "My World Is Beginning Today". It's criminal that they cut it. That's my favorite scene in the show.

reply

The full song aired on FF, Freeform Channel, today. Years ago I was outraged when the entire song was cut to one line on a network airing. I have the DVD but decided to watch on TV today for a better picture.

reply

It was aired on ABC Family last week (I dvr'd it) and the songs were complete. ABC has been cutting off a lot lately...most notable 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' last week as well!

reply

ABC Family aired it first, and they really botched up the show.

reply

I like the "My World..." song too. My friends and I call it the "Petula Clark" number because that's who Jessica looks like when she starts singing it!  I find it ironic that ABC heavily edits this special since it originally aired it in the first place.

Am I imagining this, but, it seems more and more ads are on these channels, to the extent where they are cutting out segments of programs?
