Creepy song 'If You Sit On My Lap Today'

Maybe I'm sensitive to it because I'm a kindergarten teacher, but that song really creeps me out. Does it bother anyone else?

"If you sit on my lap today,
a kiss a toy is the price you'll pay." Scary thought there!

As a child I loved it, as a teenager I realized it was creepy, as an adult I have the ability to recognize it is creepy and still love it. Great song.

Even watching it as a child in the early 70s I thought it was a little unusual for a stranger to be requesting kisses for presents. Of course, I couldn’t conceive that the adult might find the kisses sexually gratifying and I think that’s the wrong interpretation anyway.

I think it’s a mistake to censor older art forms. A parent could simply explain to a concerned child that those were simpler times when people’s minds didn’t immediately go to thoughts of pederasty when an adult requested a kiss from a child. It’s, as they say, a teachable moment.

There's nothing wrong with it. Back in those days a kid wouldn't have thought twice about giving Santa a kiss on the cheek. It's the creepy rules of modern society that make it seem wrong.
