nice LSD trip

Although Paul is just about the worst frame job man ever.

Agreed on both points. I loved the whole thing though!

If the whole film was an LSD trip, then yes it might have been a good one. As it was ... it was a joke at times and Paul and his sleazy girlfriend Sonia were amongst the worst players in the film. I was very sad that it was Charles and not Paul who got stabbed in the end, though I guess it was fitting that Paul framed himself, inadvertently. I think the film was appalling in some ways. I don't think such an uneven film should broach issues of madness and child abuse/injury. This is the most perverse Chabrol film I've seen thus far.

I give my respect to those who have earned it; to everyone else, I'm civil.

The scene is so funny, because Stéphane had walked through the entire movie in a seeming state of trance, so you don't notice any difference in her acting during the scene where she gets drugged. :-)

Seriously, I think all parts of Paul's dark 'plot' (stolen money, fake abuse, drugged orange juice) don't merge well and fail to coalesce into a remotely intelligent or believable plan (also considering that, by the end, even the mail box knew that he was an imposter).
