shareThat's a toughy. Both are dodgy. Well Harold Saxon is pure evil because he's really The Master and he is decimating the world's population. As for Michael Rimmer we know just as much about him by teh end of the film as we do within the first few minutes which is nothing other than he's calculating and ambitious.
shareI wonder if Michael Rimmer has that trumpet riff running through his head like Saxon has the Doctor Who drum beat? ;)
Anyway, finally got the DVD yesterday and am watching it now. Hard to believe it's basically a sketch-format thing from Cleese, Chapman and Cook - inadvertantly (or maybe not) they invented a truly chilling character.
And nice to see all the visual jokes I missed on my crappy taped-off-Channel-5-in-1999 video. I've spotted "DO NOT USE AFTER 1958" written above a fire extinguisher, Ferret looking for a box file that has a swastika fainted on it, and the word "RIMMER" written on the handymen's overalls (a very Docto Who thing that) - and that's all within the first ten minutes!
That's what I love about this film and Bedazzled. Everytime you re-watch you notice new hidden jokes you didn't before. :D
He was quite a chilling character in that you didn't get to know him. That by the end of the film you knew nothing more about Michael Rimmer than you did at the beginning when he mysteriously arrived at the advertising agency. He's the lead character and he isn't developed at all. Nothing is ever revealed about him. All we know is he's calculating and ambitious.
