Come on then, admit it.

I defy anyone to say that they did not cry the first time they saw this film, when Bobby runs along the platform to her father.

That scene is very moving, have a lump in my throat every time I watch it.

reply

It's one of the most moving scenes ever. You'd have to have a pretty hard heart not to cry.

reply

I love this movie, it's one of those ones you watch at Christmas, when you get dumped or when you're ill. I'm not feeling well today and I just finished watching it, I cried and I've seen this movoe so many times!

Thank God you're not a film critic Fellwanderer - you're so biased!

reply

I am crying before she even says the line - cos you know whats coming!!

Should know better at my age.

reply

I sob everytime I see it. Her dad looks a little like my dad and I miss him so much.

reply

My goodness I know whats coming every time and every time I howl!! Should know better at much age but I defy anyone not to get a lump in their throat at this scene.

reply

The way they shot that scene is amazing. I always get a lump! I also well up when Roberta walks into the room all decorated for her birthday! I think the music plays a big part in stirring up emotions too.

I shop therefore I am.

reply

No doubt in my mind that it is the most emotionally charged line uttered in any British film - probably any film.

reply

I agree with Fellwanderer and it was beautifully done.

Hands in the air, watched it today for the first time (42 yrs old) felt myself filling up with all the smoke on the platform and then she said Daddy oh my Daddy,
luckily my girlfriend was sitting nearer the tv on the couch so i managed to lean back and get away with it. She's seen me go before at less than this but i still can't help feel embarrassed.

reply

even if I see this scene out of context, on its own, I still cry buckets - such is the impact. I absolutely LOVE this film - it's my favourite EVER.

reply

The "narration" bit at the beginning always makes me tear up - when that beautiful theme starts and you see an older Bobby in a red frock where she goes to the music box thingy.

What human being can view this film and not cry, men and women alike. This masterpiece is so unusual that it has this affect on most everybody. And, this viewer agrees that the scene on the station platform shrouded in locomotive steam when Bobbie cries out "Daddy.....my Daddy", is the most emotional line at the climax of any film.
