Does anyone remember...

This is something I only vaguely recall, and I'm not even sure it ever happened:
When the movie Pufnstuf was released, I think on the very first day of the release (it was a kind of event, as I recall), although I didn't see the movie, I recall seeing some young girls walking down the street, and somehow I knew they were coming back from the movie, and they were carrying little plastic flutes, which I perceived as movie giveaways (or maybe accompanying merchandise).

Is that flute giveaway (or merchandise) something that happened along with the movie?
