Why the hell wasn't Watson more concerned about being arrested when Holmes insinuated they were gay lovers? This IS set in a time when sodomy was illegal...

But it was extremely common, and the chances of being arrested were very little. Oscar Wilde was arrested only because he made the huge blunder of suing a man for calling him a sodomite, thereby bringing the case into court.
