James Fox looks like Christian Bale?

Watching this movie for the first time, I kept having a nagging thought ..."who does James Fox remind me of here?" (lookswise) because I knew it was some actor, but couldn't put my finger on it. Then later in the movie, when he puts the wig on, and darkens his eyebrows, it hit me. He reminded me of Christian Bale. A lot. Am I crazy or did anyone else notice this?

He reminds me more of the guy who plays Frank Nitti, Capone's henchman in the Untouchables from one angle and Martin Freeman from another.

reply

He does look like Christian Bale! Definately agree. Such a great film... Nicolas Roeg is a genius.

When his hair is reddish/orange and slicked back, he looks startlingly like David Bowie from much later in the 1970s.

reply

I thought of David Bowie too when he had the paint in his hair! But there is something Christian Bale-ish about him as well. If they'd made the movie today, he'd be perfect for the part.

reply

Bite your tongue!! No remake of perfection & that is what Performance is and will always be!!! Brilliant!!!!

reply

I never said that they should, only if the film had been made now.

reply

I was thinking David Bowie as well – in appearance as well as personality. For contemporary actors, I saw more of a resemblance to James Franco than Christian Bale.

The psychopath in American Psycho does have some similarities to Chas ... N

I thought the same thing!

i thought the same thing in the last scenes
there could be a remake with Christian Bale (maybe also with Scarlett Johansson and Johnny Borrel) directed by D Aronofksy

reply

Nah. It's such a great picture of the sixties; it would be very hard to recapture that. And who could replace Mick Jagger?

reply

He also looks a bit like Edward Fox ;).

You're not crazy. (Well, you may be, but not in this instance.) I just watched the trailer and thought the same. The eyes and mouth match in particular.

Open these in separate windows and view side-by-side.

Sounded like Christian Bale too. Just re-watched this film last night after not seeing it since it's release. (I was in high school when this film was released). Anyway, I also thought he reminded me of Christian Bale...

Paul Bettany!

reply

Yes, paul Bettany - or a touch of Rupert Penry-Jones.

If it's a boy, do you think it will look like Rodney? It doesn't matter as long as it's healthy!

reply

Oddly, at one point he reminded me of Jim Carrey.

When he had the wig on he looked a bit like Terence Stamp.

I was getting some major Kevin Bacon vibes as well.
