Why did Joey and his boys...

... come after Chas, torture him and trash his apartment in the first place? Joey obviously hated him and wanted revenge for something.

The grudge between Chas and Joey is not made explicit, but the brief shot of a photograph made me think they had a homosexual relationship when they were young, and Chas eventually became disgusted with what he had done and hated Joey for it.

That would explain why Chas was so aggressively hetero (had casual sex, Playboy mag on his table, etc.).

Also, when Joey was back in Harry Flower's good graces, he had Carte Blanche to go after Chas.

I agree with both posters. Spot on. I saw all those hints too and seems pretty obvious in hindsight. Will be more concrete on a 2nd viewing.

On an entire different level, I got the feeling there was a 'secret society' or masonic type theme underlying that whole homo thing as a blackmail oath. As long as they do the work of the crime syndicate, their secret is kept in the dark (this has very real world ties). It might even be HOW they were recruited to begin with (see modern world Pedos). Turner and the women lived the bohemian life and kept their personal business out in the open and lived more in harmony and peace with a balance of masculine/feminine, which eventually appealed to Chaz after some convincing (and drugs).
