new wave?

more like old barf wave as it comes out of my mouth as I'm watching it.

but maybe that is a bit too harsh.

Care to elaborate how it is a barf wave to you? Quite excessive in words use or a critical comment?
I don't know what is with people (maybe American society?) that this film is so bad? And by the way, you don't have to have a talk with your kid after they watch this movie unless they are older than 9. I remember watching this movie in theater when I was 8 (not from U.S. apparently), I was never puked because of the INCEST idea because at that age, I don't even know about sex let alone incest. I just thought it's bad to marry your father but it's not as bad in a kid's mind as it is in adults' one. I had a fond memory of it (especially the gown of color of "moon" and "sun"...silver and gold literally) since I never seen anything like that in the 70's.
I have to say I was somewhat disappointed after watching it now because the glossy images of movies nowadays but I must say it holds itself rather well because many movies that were made in the 70's are just unwatchable now. The helicopter may be absurd for adults to see at the end but again, a kid wouldn't notice that.

I watched Donkey Skin as a kid when my sister would indiscriminately check out all the French movies available at the library.

I don't really remember it that well, but... the memories I do have are mostly of bafflement.

Recently, however, I was looking at a list of New Wave films (http://www.rinkworks.com/checklist/) and was surprised to see Donkey Skin on there, as I have a vague knowledge about French New Wave (I've seen Breathless, I know about Les Cahiers du Cinema), and I've never come across mention of the film since childhood. I told my sister about this.

Her response: the above quote.

I thought it was such a hilarious reaction that I could not help but post it on the IMDB, not thinking anyone would reply, because they hardly ever do.

Sorry if I have offended.

And there are much worse instances of cinematic incest, many of the French variety. That was hardly the issue with Donkey Skin. Also there are many, many films made in the 70s that still "hold their own" today, and many, many films made today that feel horribly unwatchable. Donkey Skin is just a very bizarre film, but with a timeless sort of bizarreness that I'd probably actually want to share with my kids.
