Why buy a diluted DVD?

For those who recall the film from its original theatrical release, beware buying the DVD--it's missing material cut from the film after its initial theatrical run. Pretty much a bare bones affair, here.

Hey Columbia, release the full unedited version on DVD. We want our money's worth.

Is it still watchable, though? How would you rate the DVD as is?

But he didnt get it.

So I bought it....I really found no fault with it. Yeah, it's missing a nude scene. And? That's fine with me...I'd rather not see one of my favorite actresses naked, thanks.

As far as the outdoor scene with the guys in the car...just watch the deleted scene on youtube and you're not missing much.

Yeah I agree with you on the naked part, that like wanting to see your mother naked? No thanks.

And I still don't understand why they cut out her saying that to the guys in the car. All she says is "Give me a little privacy?" or something like that, and they go and chase them? Makes no sense to people who haven't seen the original.

Life's candy and the suns a bwall of butta. ;D

And I agree with you. The nudity isn't necessary, but her exact words to the guys in the convertible are. And Streisand's delivery of the dialogue is so expert - her timing is so beautiful - that cutting that sequence is nothing less than a crime.

I won't buy the DVD until that scene is restored.

I agree that it was a mistake to cut the phrase out and not replace it. It makes no sense that they get so mad, but in my opinion it doesn't destroy the entire film. We know what happens.

I don't think cutting the scene destroys the movie, but I do think it diminishes it. It's like watching BRINGING UP BABY and discovering that Hepburn's dress-ripping scene has been cut - it's a comic highlight, and those who know how well the scene plays with the rest of the film can't help missing it.

It was a great scene. Hearing her say F Off to those guys in a 1970 movie was hilarious and memorable. Taking it out means no way I'd ever purchase (or even rent) that DVD. When the R rated version is released, then I'll consider it.
