New York Never Really Changes

I was just up for a visit to the city this year (went to see Mickey Dolenz at the B.B. King Blues Club). The clothing styles may change some but the continual rush, noise, smell, and unbelievable costs are always the same. I enjoy a trip to New York but am glad when I leave too. As I waited to get on a commuter bus to go back home to a Southern state, I saw a man walking along shouting to himself and knew that was the one thing I had missed in my day and a half stay to make it my typical New York experience.

The thing Lemmon's character doesn't understand is that the city DOES NOT stop for you, you have to be constantly negotiating with whatever is going on around you, anticipating problems, and sidestepping (on purpose) to avoid the exploding manhole cover (my favorite moment in the movie by the way - I still don't know how they made it look so real but kept Jack safe - it really looked like a heavy manhole cover coming down right next to him).

I lived for a few years in NYC in the late 70's and this movie is dead on accurate!!!
