Casting the Kellermans

I like Lemmon (of course I would have to be a heretic not to) and I even like Sandy Dennis but I think they are not the best casting choices if you want to
project a Midwest vibe with the Kellermans. They don't sound or act much like Midwesterners. With Dennis it's mainly the accent (or should I say accents) ---with Lemmon it's the anger and his ability to readily verbalize frustration (real small town Midwesterners especially of that era would have a problem doing that).
I didn't buy Steve Martin or Goldie Hawn either as Midwesterners in the remake.

Who would I have casted? ---- A guy who was actually in the 1970 version (making his first movie appearance) ----Paul Dooley. He would have been perfect. And his onscreen wife in Breaking Away --- Barbra Barrie would have made a good Mrs. Kellerman.
