Oddly watchable - one for the fans.

But I didn't make it all the way through, this was quite a strange (but welcome) addition to the movie-roster on a recent Northwest Airlines flight. I honestly would never have guessed that Beatty and Taylor had been in a movie together!

I thought that the 'zero chemistry' sort of works in favor of the movie's theme - that people were so disconnected..

I'd definitely watch it again if I had the chance..interesting stuff

I disagree with the notion that they had no chemistry together as I believe they did. However I was not too fond of the characters, although they are meant to be shown as helpless victims of their environment they did make some stupid decisions and the audience is meant to feel sympathy for them.

I agree: this film has always been oddly watchable. A great picture? Perhaps not, despite Taylor, Beatty and George Stevens.

But there's a gentle, period poignance which works.

And the viewer either kind of "gets" that or doesn't.
