Vincent Minnelli

Don't blame Vincent Minnelli for this mess. The film was taken away from him by Paramount Pictures and the Producers and severely butchered, numberes and scenes were cut. Minnelli was a very fine Director and had his original vision of this film been allowed, it might have been a good film.

I agree. "On a Clear Day" is a beautiful-looking film, and the Nelson Riddle orchestrations are wonderful. I like Mr. Montand a great deal as well as the supporting actors of whom Mr. Minnelli had such a nice ability to cast. Mr. Nicholson's and Mr. Blyden's roles are cut back too far and the film was cut in favor of Mr. Streisand's performance. We are waiting for the cut portions and a reassembly to try to determine what Mr. Minnelli's intentions were for this interesting but flawed film.
