From what I can remember (and we're going back a LONG way...so I could be wrong...I was just a kid then), the plot/storyline was the same, but I don't recall any footage of the Vietnam War/protests/police (which appear to be just stock footage) in the original version....just the movie straight without any stock footage used. I'm guessing they maybe trimmed the odd scene that Stallone wasn't in so he'd be featured in the movie more. But, I certainly do remember Anthony Page having the "starring" role..."co-starring Sylvester E. Stallone." The closing credits of REBEL state at the very end it is a "revision of an earlier edition entitled NO PLACE TO HIDE." So it was re-edited in some way, but exactly what the changes are is anybody's guess these days. I also noticed there are 2 copyright years on the end credits...1973 and 1980 (I'm guessing the original copyright and the re-edit copyright)
I just had a quick look at my DVD and VHS versions of REBEL, and I noticed that on the DVD that right after the "A Robert Schitzner Film" credit at the beginning, the DVD has a monologue with text about Vietnam which wasn't even on the VHS of REBEL. On the VHS, after the credit for Schitnzer, they cut right to the start of the movie (Stallone on the side of the road feeding a horse...without the monologue and text).
Hope I helped you out. If anyone remembers a little more please share...or even better...anyone has a copy of the original NO PLACE TO HIDE...please share.
