Screening tonight at the Aero in L.A.

WOW!!!! I've never seen "Music Lovers" projected before and tonight's print looks like it was struck yesterday. Gorgeous!!! If nothing else, at least it's a suggestion that the elements are there should anybody ever want to put it out on DVD.

Richard Chamberlain was in attendance and did a Q&A before this and after "Petulia". People wanted to hear more about his more mainstream less eccentric (less brilliant) work, but he did tell the story about how he and Glenda Jackson were rattled around in that train compartment set shooting the honeymoon journey for hours and hours. Between takes when the crew was re-setting, he and Glenda would huddle together in bathrobes, kind of shell-shocked, but when it was time, in they'd go.... Said it was a wonderful sort of torture.

Poor Glenda. :(

Sounds awesome! You're so lucky!

I agree about the print and DVD, though. It was shot on 70 mm, right? They could even BluRay that wonderful film.

Thanks for the post--sure sorry I missed that one! I saw it at the Nuart in Santa Moncia 10 yrs ago or so and it was an OK print, the sound wasn't that good... but anyway, to see it on the big screen is to really be blown away by a motion picture experience...I was completely exhausted when I staggered out after...in a good way. There's just nothing else like it. No one--least of all Russell--knows why his best films haven't been re-released for home markets, it's very frustrating.

Nilbog! It's goblin spelled backwards! This is their kingdom!

The Aero is screening THE MUSIC LOVERS again on Sunday, August 22nd. It's going to be the same beautiful print they showed a few months ago. This time it's part of a Ken Russell tribute weekend of six of his films over 3 nights. Ken Russell himself will be in attendance on all three nights! If you missed MUSIC LOVERS last time, do anything you can to be there this time as it doesn't show up often. It is simply amazing on the big screen. EDIT: THE MUSIC LOVERS is now the opening feature that night at 7:30pm and WOMEN IN LOVE will be the second feature afterwards. It's been moved because Richard Chamberlain will be there as well. (MUSIC LOVERS wasn't originally even scheduled for this tribute weekend - "MAHLER" was in its place, but the Cinematheque couldn't find a decent print of that film, so they replaced it with MUSIC LOVERS - what a blessing!) Will surely be a terrific evening.

The other nights are Friday (at the Aero): THE DEVILS + ALTERED STATES. Saturday (at teh Egyptian): TOMMY + LISZTOMANIA.
