Richard Chamberlain's playing?

Does anyone know if he was just pretending to play for this role? Specifically near the beginning of the film where they play Tchaikovsky's 1st piano concerto? I only ask because if he is indeed playing, holy wow, and also because if he isn't playing, still holy wow for looking that correct! Thanks!

It's called "acting," just like Richard Dreyfuss and Amy Irving in The Competition ... and I'm sure there are lots of other examples.

I was just curious, thanks for the response.

No he did not play for real only movements of hands. I was working on the film and have behind footage.
My opinion the film was casted wrong.
There is a lot to understand to film making and one can fake a lot. It was hard work as one did not have computers to do trick effects.

no he was not, nor could the audio from Previn and LSO [not sure who was pianist] possibly have come from a small hall and small ensemble

thing that was immediately apparent to me was piano was NOT in front of conductor, ie pianist was actually taking cues from conductor which is not the way things have been done at least since 1973 [and I thought right back to Beethoven's time]

any clarification here?

I saw him on the Dick Cavett Show at the time promoting the film, where as I recall he stated that they were using a type of very fancy "player piano"; possibly something like an Ampico which were popular with the wealthy around 1910-1929. He practiced moving his fingers over the keys, which were moving automatically.
