'Now only Dr. Huston survives.'
What the inspector says just before Professor Walker's dead body is wheeled in.
There were two bodies already in the room. One belonged to the female doctor, Crawford, whose face we were shown. The other body remained covered up to its ankles but we can surmise that this was another murdered doctor since the medical examiner/detective remarked that they had likely died at the hands of the same killer. We know, then, that three doctors' corpses had been found, which was confirmed when the inspector said that "only Dr. Huston survives." Since the inspector knew that Johnson's widow was after four doctors the most obvious explanation is that he confused Walker or Huston for Dr. Donen. The problem is that the inspector had met with Dr. Huston just that day or the day before. In addition, he'd seen all of the doctors together at the conference and presumably was able to match names to faces. Even if we allow for the effects of decomposition (and how bad could Huston have looked after one day?), Walker, Huston and Donen were of completely different heights and body types. I don't think this was an error by the translator, either, because the actor clearly says "Huston."
So, is this a case of the writer being careless regarding continuity, or was Franco just screwing with us?
