FRENCH TOAST!!

I first saw this when I was 8.
On her first meal back home, breakfast, her Mom asks her
if she wants french toast. I saw that and said: "Ooooo!"

See, 'cause my grandmother would occasionaly make french toast
for breakfast for me and I just thought it was the best thing ever!
And plus, this is the first time I'd seen or heard "french toast"
being mentioned on TV, in movies, wherever outside of my kitchen.

By the by, french toast has nothing to do with France.
Which was what I thought as a little kid, you know: fancy French cooking & all ....
I thought french toast was the elaborate way they made toast! lol
But the reason it's called "french toast" is because frenching is a cooking method:
frying something in shallow oil, like sauteêing, I suppose, but I don't see the difference.
Anyhoo, after frenching batter-dipped bread until it's a toasty golden brown, et voilá, "french toast"!
Thus ends the food lesson for today.

The only thing I'm not clear on is whether or not this was on NBC or CBS.
I wanna say NBC. Am I right?

I LOVE French Toast. OMG That would have been a delicious breakfast just being back home after eating out of dumpsters and eating other peoples leftovers when she lived as a hippie!

I know, right?
I like mine slathered in melted creamery butter,
then liberally doused with either maple/Vermont Maid/Log Cabin syrup,
along with a pile of medium, thick-cut, hickory-smoked bacon!

I always order French toast when I go out for breakfast! Growing up I didn't eat it much . My Mom didn't make French toast or pancakes very much. She was more the omelet or bacon/sausage /eggs/home fries breakfast type.

Now , as an adult I make French Toast sometimes. I haven't mastered the art of pancakes. But going out to breakfast is the big treat when I usually eat French Toast!

I had to laugh in the movie when the Mom and Dad were eating a very small portion!! OMG how could ANYONE just eat a small portion of French toast being it is so good! I'm thinking that is why my Mom didn't make it much, she always was trying to lose a pound or two. I guess it was too tempting! LOL!!

You mention small portions ....
Here in NYC, there used to be a restaurant called "The Royal Canadian Pancake House".
Whenever you ordered french toast, you'd get an entire loaf of bread ....
And the pancakes were the size of car hubcaps, no joke! lol

Oh my!!! Just reading your post, I gained 10 pounds! LoL!!!! Yummy!!!!!

It was originally telecast on ABC ; February 18, 1971.

Ah, OK: ABC. Thank you!
Coulda SWORN it was NBC, but the hippie-theme thing fits in with ABC's vibe at the time,
["Room 222", "The Partridge Family", "Love, American Style", etc., etc.], so ....

But February 18th? IMDB says the 16th, which slots with their
"ABC Tueday Movie Of The Week": http://youtu.be/o_HKwb5LYYM
February '71 .... I was in Miss McKenna's 3rd grade class. lol
