Am I the only one?

I actually saw the TV series (1972) from ground zero and only saw the theatrical film years later - uncut.
Am I the only one that picked up on Donald "Hawkeye" Pierce's infectious little whistle whenever he saw something weird?
I've been doing it for ages now and sometimes people will ask me about it and I explain. Some get it, others I have to explain it to.
Am I the only one?

That's a nice character detail.

good point.

I use it from time-to-time. Nobody I know has every commented on it or given me a knowing nod. I don't think people remember this little tidbit of pop culture.

I'm not terribly familiar with the TV series, just the film. Is Alda's whistle the same or similar to Sutherland's?

I also find myself curious: do you think Sutherland created that whistle himself, or was it Altman? Was the whistle scripted or improvised?
