A Goof ?

While backpacking in the Eastern Block countryside, the main character stops at a roadside eatery, on the table there's a bottle of Plochmans Mustard (in the bright yellow plastic bottle shaped like a barrel). I'm guessing that this product, made near Chicago, wouldn't be available in the Communist country.

Maybe it is a mistake, but all kinds of things could be smuggled in from the West.

Somehow I doubt Ploughman's was in E. Germany - but also wondering what it was doing in Spain where the movie was filmed. Good mustards abound in Europe - but maybe not so much the 'turmeric' type (French's yellow being the reference - which Ploughman's also is) - so who knows.

As for being in Communist countries - mustard would not be high on a list for import - the Russians themselves have excellent mustard - but for the most part home-made - at least it was then. I myself got it as a gift once and super-good.

Then again there are dozens if not hundreds of types of mustards - so like wine and cheese, there are a myriad of tastes to be catered to.

On the other hand re props - I thought Leiser's 'Hugo Boss' sunglasses were an absolutely ridiculous choice if he was to be inconspicuous.'

btw - They sure could have picked a filming location more remindful of Germany than basically semi-arid areas of Spain!

Indeed.
